How Race, Class, And Gender Influences Domestic Violence

How Race, Class, and Gender Influences Domestic Violence Dennis Garcia Montclair State University Abstract: Domestic violence has become a very controversial crime in the United States. Although domestic violence has been around for many years, society now sees it as a threat to our homes. This type of crime is unique because it’s a nondiscriminatory crime; it can happen to anyone at any time. Domestic violence is also a dark figure crime, which means that it is a crime least reported to the police. In this paper, I discuss how race, class and gender influence domestic violence. I begin with briefly discussing the different types of abuse within domestic violence and the two types of restraining orders that†¦show more content†¦The violator can physically, mentally and even economically abuse the victim. In some cases, the perpetrator can abuse victim(s) by pushing, punching, and threatening them with sexual assault and more. Although there are restraining orders to prevent the perpetrator from getting near the victim, domestic violence has been known for being a dark figu re of crime. With that being said, Richard Davis stated in his book, â€Å"Americans have historically objected to the government’s attempt to legislate what they consider their private morality or family problems† (83). Several Americans do oppose laws that violate their home privacy, but it is the government’s job to keep its citizens safe from any danger, even if that danger is in a household. According to mic.com, â€Å"the average percentage of domestic violence that is not reported is 70%, which means that only 30% get reported†. There are many reasons why victims don’t report the abuse. Some victims may feel that by reporting the crime, the situation would only get worst. Others may be scared that the perpetrator would involve them in the situation and murder or hurt them. Regardless of the excuse, Americans have been increasing the number of cases by not reporting it to the authorities. If more cases were reported, then the topic would be o f more importance to Washington D.C., where legislator could put a stop to it. In contrary, some reported cases that were reported to the authorities

Huck Finn Uncovered in The Adventures of Huckaberry Finn...

How can a man make a decision if he does not approve of himself? A man can not make a decision about a major event if he does not first take of the major the decision of approving of himself. I believe that Huck had such a delay on making the right decision because he did not yet feel comfortable with himself. Huck changed from the being a boy to becoming a man. When Jim and Huck were on there way to Cairo this when Huck faced one of his first big roadblocks between what is right and what is wrong. Huck knew that helping a runaway slave to freedom was against the law.  ¨We neither of us could keep still. Every time he danced around (Jim) and says, ‘Dah’s Cairo!’ it went through me like a shot, and I thought if it was Cairo I recknoced I†¦show more content†¦When Huck is on the raft with Jim floating on the river all their problems seem to go away. Society can no longer bother them. There is no longer Black or White. It is just Jim and Huck.  ¨I hadn ’t had a bite to eat since yesterday, so Jim he got out some corn-dodgers and buttermilk, and pork and cabbage and greens—there ain’t nothing in the world so good when it’s cooked right—and whilst I eat my supper we talked and had a good time. . . .We said there warn’t no home like a raft, after all. Other places do seem so cramped up and smothery, but a raft don’t. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft ¨ (Pg.117). Huck starts to respect himself more. He begins to feel the sense of freedom and understands why Jim wants it so much. Huck comes to learn to approve of his decisions. Huck begins to mature and he separates himself from what society wants rather than what he wants.Later on in the story the Duke and Dauphin sell Jim back into slavery and Huck decides to write a letter to Miss Watson telling her what he has done and of Jims whereabouts. I took it up , and held it in my hand. I was a-trembling, because Iâ₠¬â„¢d got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: ‘All right then, I’ll go to hell’—and tore it up. It was awful thoughts and awful words, but they was said. And I let them stay said; and never thought no

Leadership is not just a word or act that is use only in the military, every organization in the world has some type of leadership structure from the small business to the biggest cooperation leadership plays an important roles. I will discuss some of the similarities between the tactical and organizational leadership as it relates to the Army. We will write a custom essay sample on Tactical Leadership vs Organizational Leadership or any similar topic only for you Order Now When we think of leadership in the Army we automatic think of the process of influencing soldiers to accomplish a mission by providing directions, purpose and motivation, but when dealing with tactical or organizational leadership a leader has to think about a different role and take into account the time frame and how they are going to influence their soldiers. Even thought there are several different types’ leadership the main goal is always going to be the same, and that is to get the mission done and try to improve upon the unit and its capabilities. We all know how the Army defines leadership but there are other things we have to take into account, like a bad decision can cause soldiers their lives. I do believe that tactical and organizational leadership are the same in some ways but depending on the role can be different. Tactical Leadership First, let’s talk about the tactical side. As we know there are three aspects in this process, the leadership role, the time frame and the leaders influence. One of the first things is that in order to be affective you have to be in front of your soldiers, you must have your subordinates trust, you must have a level of tactical and technical knowledge that is unmatched by anyone around you and have a wiliness to help and support your soldiers or they will not follow you. On the tactical side a leader has to lead, support develop and take responsible for his soldiers in order to accomplish his/her mission. As an effective leader one has to be especially close to their subordinates in order to provide them with the necessary purpose, direction and motivation to complete their assigned task. The tactical level is usually found at the company or platoon level, this leader is always looking to accomplish the short term goals in support of the long term mission. Tactical leaders must know how to solve problems quickly and without hesitation, they have more direct influence over soldiers because they are in the trenches with them. At this stage the leader has to council, correct and led their soldiers through the direct approach of leadership. Organization leadership This leadership style is where the leader actually has to plan and synchronize training in order that the small units are able to produce the tactical into the operational action. At the organization level a leader is not in a traditional leadership position when they are directly in charge of soldiers. Leaders in this style are the one whom establish section that develop plans and create orders. When a result is achieved at this level the entire team is responsibility for the outcome. Organizational leaders make decision that affect the long term goal and helps plan the short term mission for their subordinate units. The tactical and organization leadership styles have some very different level of leadership but the one thing that will never change between the two especially in the Army is the fact that you must have a good set of standard to follow, have good values and skill sets to save lives.
